“Provocative and well-informed, Alexandrova gives voice to people who are too often talked about rather than listened to.” – Daniel Trilling, author of Lights in the Distance
the3million comes together with Bulgarian writer and international migration expert Yva Alexandrova to host a discussion about the importance of having migrants’ and their actual experiences and perspectives included in the social, cultural and political life. Centering the book on her own experience and that of other Eastern Europeans she brings front and centre the voices rarely featured in debates about immigration: migrants themselves.
In “Here to Stay”, Yva Alexandrova tells the stories of Eastern Europeans in the UK, their trajectories, their hopes and expectations and the clash with the reality they experienced. She discussed the changes in attitudes to immigration and particularly how Eastern Europeans became the focus of hostility in the UK in the lead up to Brexit.
Yva will read an excerpt from the book and discuss how we can now create space for Eastern European voices to be meaningfully heard and their perspectives reflected.
