How can music make your city better? This is the question Shain Shapiro is asking in his acclaimed debut book, released in September on Repeater. To celebrate, he is coordinating a series of discussions across the UK with local experts and civic leaders, and on November 14, he’s coming to Leeds.
Leeds is synonymous with music. From the
new arena to Leeds festival, music is a key economic and social driver about what makes Leeds
a place to live for, rather than just a place to live in. But how is music understood, managed and developed in
Leeds? What can we do better? why does it matter?
To discuss this, Shain will be joined by James Abbott – Donnelly (Duke Studios), Marie Berthet-Meylan
(University of Leeds) and other special guests to discuss how music is – and can better be – a tool to improve and enhance Leeds. He will also be sharing excerpts of the book and signing copies.
